Everyone has a power piece in their wardrobe. Maybe it’s a sleek suit, or a leather trench. Either way, it’s something that unleashes your confidence the moment you put it on.
For me, it’s over-the-knee boots.
Come autumn, OTKs are my ride-or-dies. They bring cold-weather glam to any outfit, keep my legs toasty as temperatures drop, and help me strut my stuff with confidence.
I’m especially fond of OTKs cut from soft suede for the daytime, or a croc-effect finish for evening polish. There are so many ways to wear them: from pairing them with a mini dress and a long coat, to layering them over a go-to pair of jeans.
These statement boots might be a tad intimidating to first-time wearers, but fret not – here’s a short guide on how to rock over the knee boots this autumn.
How To Style Over-The-Knee Boots
With A Smock
During autumn, we love wearing super-comfy smocks. As the saying (that I just made up) goes, the roomier the dress, the more Yorkshire puds you can scoff at Sunday lunch. These oversized staples look particularly gorge when paired with OTKs and cosy winter coats.
We’ve also styled the deep red mini with a waist-cinching belt and faux fur gilet, and we’d advise teaming the leopard-print dress with an oversized teddy.
With Leather Look Trousers
An oversized jumper, faux leather trousers and black OTKs make up an iconic Autumn trio that we never knew we needed! Throw on boots and sleek leather-looks, then brighten up your one-shade autumn outfit with this hotly-coloured jumper.
If you prefer prints, we recommend this oversized knit that’s patterned with stars. This really-comfy-but-also-totally-put-together look is an ideal option for brunches, weekend strolls and coffee runs.
With Midi Dresses
With some help from throw-on layers and cold-weather boots, you can 100% wear your fave dresses into autumn too. We love this versatile flowy midi dress embellished with glitzy star and moon details, which will take you from an afternoon of cosy coffee shop mooching to an autumn night out with no outfit changes.
With Vintage-Inspired Pieces
Over-the-knee boots are amazing for that 70s retro-inspired vibe! In summer, you could pair them with a flowy, printed maxi dress, a wide-brimmed hat, and a fringe bag for a bohemian look. In the winter, you could try them with a mini A-line skirt and a floaty tucked-in blouse, plus a 70s-style afghan coat with a fluffy collar (think Kate Hudson in Almost Famous).
With Midi Skirts And Jumpers
Vibrant midi skirts + neutral jumpers = the chic combo that’s becoming our everyday autumn uniform. Just tuck your oversized jumper into a satin-feel midi skirt, pop on your over-the-knees and head to fancy lunches and bougie bakeries
With Workwear
Style you black or brown leather over-the-knee boots with a neutral blazer dress or shirt dress, or an A-line skirt with a tucked-in pussybow blouse. Layer with an oversized blazer for a professional yet stylish outfit.
With Jeans
Pair your over-the-knee boots with skinny or slim-fit jeans and an oversized jumper in a complementary colour, like the super soft Callie knit with flattering ribbed sleeves. You could also add a long pendant necklace and a crossbody bag for a relaxed yet stylish look.
With Cosy Knitwear
Try pairing your suede over-knee-boots with a striped jumper dress in autumnal colours like olive green or burgundy, or the beau wrap midi dress (this piece is as cosy as a posh hotel dressing gown but a lot more stylish). Top the look off with an oversized scarf and a beanie for a warm and stylish autumn outfit.
With Partywear
If you’re glamming up for a night out with the girls, a pair of high-heeled over-the-knee boots is the perfect addition to your party wardrobe. Go for a luxurious material like velvet or suede and pair with a classic little black dress or a leather mini skirt and top. If you’re going all-out, a sequin look like the bestselling Fifi dress is your gal. Accessorise with statement jewellery and a clutch.
Remember to adapt these outfit ideas to your personal style and the weather. Over-the-knee boots can elevate almost any outfit – and trust me, you’ll feel amazing wearing them.
I am looking for an all rounder pair of over the knee boots but beine very tall I don’t want ‘high’ or ‘platform’. Very flat boots can also be more casual and not always smart enough for a dress but something in between? Do you have a medium height boot in your range please as they are not mentioned in your article?
Warm regards
