What To Wear To The Beach

what-to-wear-to-the-beach

Whether I’m hitting the vintage rides at Margate’s Dreamland or sprawled on a pool lounger somewhere more tropical, a trip to the seaside usually crops up in my summer itinerary – which begs the inevitable question of what to wear.

When it comes to my suitcase, I usually pack colourful layers, flattering swimsuits and throw-on day dresses. Lightweight fabrics and roomy cover-ups are ideal at the beach, and I avoid heavy materials that dry slowly and cling to the skin.

If, like me, you have beachside plans in your diary, you can check out my personal wish list below for your next coastal adventure.

Breezy Cover-Ups

Days spent lounging by the sea call for lightweight layers you can quickly throw over your bikinis and swimsuits for some extra warmth and coverage. This tie-waist option comes in a gorgeous blend of vibrant pinks and oranges, and the sheer fabric is breathable and won’t hug your body.

Plus, it’s also available in a blue-green mix. Colour match with your ‘kini if you enjoy a tonal, put together look.

If you’d prefer something that’s slightly more structured, this hotly-coloured kaftan has an elasticated waist and cuffs.

Standout Swimwear

No trip to the beach is complete without a dip in the water, so you’ll be needing swimming costumes and two-pieces that team up style with practicality. I love that this white bikini set comes in a robust stretch fabric, and it’s double-lined too! A great option for bigger busts, the top offers coverage and support, and the padding can be added or removed as you like.

If you’re partial to one-pieces, how about these timeless monochrome swimsuits available in either black or white? The scoop neck is both flattering and stylish, and each cossie comes equipped with hidden support at the bust. Looks ace under a flowy kaftan or unbuttoned shirt dress, or you can throw on denim shorts and some trainers for a trip to the ice cream van.

Laid-Back Dresses

I’m getting serious boho vibes from this floral Bardot dress, an easy-to-wear midi with elasticated details around the waist. The print is really summery, and it will work with everything from slip-on sliders to strappy sandals or even trainers. I’ve actually worn it in the past with heels, so it’d be a great choice if you’re heading to a beachside bar or restaurant.

If you’re packing light, an oversized shirt dress is always a good idea. This versatile style can be worn alone or layered over your favourite swimsuit or separates, and this floaty option comes in a cooling cotton fabric that will dry quickly.

… And Playsuits

Playsuits are an underrated summer essential, combining the comfort of shorts with the glamour of your fave dress. This playful floral style comes in a flattering wrap fit and zips up at the back. The flowy shorts and pleated sleeves will keep you cool, and it looks fab with some fresh white trainers.
