As leaves begin to fall and temperatures start to drop, it’s time we acknowledge one of life’s greatest truths: it’s f***ing impossible to work out what to wear in September.
With its totally unpredictable weather, this awkward month always throws a spanner in the works, my social calendar and my wardrobe.
While early autumn sometimes brings me sunshine, light breezes and trips to the park, my al fresco plans are often ruined by unexpected showers and single-digit temperatures.
So, how do we solve a problem like September? Personally, I vouch for soft-feel fabrics, longer hemlines and lightweight layers. Yep, you heard me, it’s officially time to welcome longline cardis, versatile midis and cosy jumpers back into our wardrobes.
The super-soft Peony cardigan teams cosiness with versatility. For daytime plans, throw on over skinnies and trainers, or, if you’re heading out for drinks, chuck on heeled boots and wear this lightweight layer as a chic dress.
Light Layers Wanted
September calls for lightweight layers in cool neutral shades – and I’m particularly obsessed with the Arden midi, a long-sleeved style that pairs perfectly with jeans and boots.
The bestselling Beau dress pairs a comfy wrap fit with the softest knit fabric. Perfect for chillier days, we recommended teaming this flattering midi with heeled boots and statement jewellery.
Patterned with luminous moons and stars, this floaty dress looks gorgeous with knee-length boots and minimal accessories. On colder nights, throw on your favourite faux leather jacket and take this suit-all mini to bars and beer gardens.
Colour Block Pop
This wear-anywhere wonder works just as well as a chic dress as it does a high-impact top. If you’re off to brunch, pair with leather-look skinnies and strappy heels, and, if date night beckons, opt for gold hoops and heeled boots.
Cosy Girl Season
Oh, we do love a cosy jumper! This oversized style goes great with jeans, boots and all your September plans. While we’ve styled this comfy layer with trousers, she looks just as beaut when paired with midi skirts and strappy heels.
