How Much Is Your Holiday Wardrobe Actually Costing You? [Survey]

Cost of a Holiday Wardrobe (survey)

Flights + accommodation + spending money for Lays crisps: that’s the total cost of a summer holiday, right? Well, it doesn’t exactly include the new bikini, 3 dresses, and pool slides you have to buy too, does it? Which got us thinking, how much do we actually spend on our holiday wardrobe? We took to the public and surveyed over 2,000 Brits on their pre-holiday spending and the results were interesting to say the least.

Location, location, location

How much you spend on your holiday wardrobe seems to be largely dictated by where you live. Perhaps not too surprisingly, people from Oxford come out as the biggest spenders, forking out over £160 on holiday clothes each time they go away. This is in stark contrast to those in Aberdeen who spend under £20 each time.

Surprising gender reveal

Donno about you, but we were quite shocked to discover that men were TWICE as likely to dress up for the gram on holidays than women. You can put that in your back pocket for the next time a guy tries to tell you how women are so much more obsessed with social media. This need to make an impression on your feed correlates with what a third of respondents admitted to: that they feel under pressure to look good on holidays.

Not everyone brings spare underwear

If, like us, you thought it was a given to pack underwear as if you were going to pee yourself every single day for the duration of your holiday, you would be wrong. Amazingly, 40% of you do not bring spares. Not a single pair.

But, we digress! Back to the £££. Seems we’re all in agreement that a comfy pair of shoes (for all that walking to the bar) is at the top of our checklist, as it’s the one item people are most willing to spend more on. Sunglasses are a close second!

Almost half of us will buy 6+ new items for each holiday abroad. We did a bit off additional math and spending the way we do means that if Brits were to go on holiday twice a year from the age of 18, their holiday wardrobe costs would be £1,560 on average by the time they’re 30 – could get you 2 weeks in Mallorca, that.
