There’s something liberating about getting dressed in high summer. As temperatures rise, it often feels like fashion rules fly out the window, and, come July, flinging on a floaty dress and the nearest pair of sandals is the only ‘outfit formula’ I stick to.
Of course, this can pose its own set of issues. While halter-neck and backless styles are great options this time of year, I’m still needing the support and coverage of a regular bra. No more strap mishaps or potential nip slips, please. If you’re in the same boat, read on for my pick of summer dresses you can wear with a bra.
The Girls’ Night Midi
I had a wine night in the diary last weekend, so I decided to give this vibrant shirt dress a whirl with some strappy nude heels. The bright colours are perfect for summer, and the removable fabric belt means you can easily tighten or loosen the fit. While the buttons don’t go all the way down (there’s a very subtle leg split), you can also adjust the neckline too!
The Special Occasion Showstopper
If your summer looks anything like mine, you’ll have a fancy event in the diary every weekend from now until September, whether that be a swanky dinner, garden party or birthday bash. If the dress code is formal, I’ll be slipping into the Serena dress, a floral midi with lovely angel sleeves. The silky-feel fabric and navy colour make this option look expensive, but you can add it to your wardrobe for less than £50.
The Wedding Guest Option
While the Serena midi ticks my boxes for most special occasions, I prefer to wear lighter colours for a summer wedding, so I’d go for something like this vivid wrap dress by Liquorish. The fit is super flattering, and the tie-waist can be loosened to accommodate post-bubbly bloating. Better still, I can wear my comfiest granny bra with this style, so I’ll feel supported all night long. Accessories-wise, I’d keep things simple and pair it with nude heels.
The Work-To-Weekend Midi
At this point, we’re all just heading into the office to make use of the air-con, right? This versatile shirt dress is comfy enough for the daily grind and stylish enough for drinks afterwards. Plus, the detachable belt can be adjusted for extra comfort. Pro tip: you can actually switch it out for one of your own if you want to add a personal touch!
The Everyday Summer Maxi
I’ve been searching for the ultimate everyday maxi for yonks, but I think I’ve finally got my hands on a winner! This comfy shirred style comes in a spotty print that will go with just about anything, and the puffy sleeves and high back mean you don’t have to think too hard about your bra choice. I’d complete the look with white trainers for the daytime, changing into strappy sandals for evening plans.
